Another Week Gone By

I'm sure you're getting sick of me saying, it, but another week is flying by! Next Wednesday we leave for South Luangwa, and the following week is our final week! Kelsi and I cannot believe that our experience is coming to an end so soon.

Some highlights from the past few days:

-Food was our topic of the week. Who doesn't like talking about food? The ladies were especially intrigued when we described hamburgers and hot dogs. My lame description of a hot dog: "There's a skinny bun - bread - with some kind of meat in the middle...It's not actually a dog!" I added quickly as I saw looks of alarm. They were much more interested in trying hamburgers. A couple of the ladies piped up with meal requests: "You must bring that for us!" Kelsi and I are now contemplating how we could find the ingredients for and make burgers for 18 women. The ladies' knowledge of food vocabulary is pretty good from shopping in the grocery stores here, so we also focused on words that describe food. We brought some lemon juice for them to sample to explain "sour," and their faces were priceless.

-We finished learning all of the letters of the alphabet on Monday, so we had a little alphabet party during class today. We played some board races, and the ladies were giggling and slipping on the floor as they ran around the classroom.

-Making steps towards friendship with Chisomo was a major highlight! Chisomo is a little boy of our student Ruth, and he is ADORABLE. In one of our first blog posts, I talked about how I brought a little boy to tears. It was Chisomo! I'm happy to report that he no longer cries when I enter the room, and - get this - he actually smiles and plays peek-a-boo. I hold out my arms every day for a hug, but he still isn't biting. We'll see if he comes around in the next couple weeks.... I was taking pictures of a couple of the kids with Kelsi's phone, and they were laughing hysterically. Chisomo is the one in the front. How cute is he??

This is unrelated, but here are a few pictures from our trip to Malawi. Better late than never, right?

In Mua - what a view!

Our view from the back of the truck from Mua to Dedza.

Wide-eyed children. They looked shocked to see muzungos riding in the back of a truck.

The thumbs up: A classic all over the world.

Photo cred: Molly Murphy. She got some great pictures from our trip, and we can't wait to share the rest of them with you when we're back in a couple of weeks. (It still seems unreal that we will be back in America in a few short weeks!)

God's blessings on the rest of your week! Kelsi and I continue to thank God every day for the innumerable blessings he grants us. Good night!
